Reflection:
The Copyright Rules PowerPoint artifact for standard 4.2 is a presentation that describes the copyright laws for photographs and illustrations. This PowerPoint goes into details about what copyright is and what rules are involved in copyright. I also included ways that you can include images without worrying about copyright and scenarios to show how copyright works.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 4.2 Safe, Healthy, Legal, and Ethical Use because it gives details of how to use digital information to ensure you are ethical when using information online. When creating this document, I was able to research details on copyright as well as know what questions to ask to ensure that copyright laws are not broken. This is important so that students and teachers are knowledgeable when using content online. Many times, people do not realize that they are using technology in an unethical and illegal way. By completing this PowerPoint, I am able to become more knowledgeable as well as make others more knowledgeable. I was able to model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies through creating the scenarios for teachers to understand. The beginning of the PowerPoint outlined the uses of copyright but the end gave specific examples that modeled the legal or illegal use. These were helpful in meetings to ensure that teachers understood the content and it facilitated discussion about copyright. I want to ensure that all teachers are knowledgeable of the safe use of technology so that they can give correct information to students.
This artifact taught me a lot about copyright laws that I did not know so that I am using safe, healthy, legal and ethical use. I chose to talk specifically about images because I feel that most people use images frequently to make their projects look better but they are using images that may be stolen from others. I thought this PowerPoint would be the most useful to teachers and students to learn and be relevant to their lives. One thing I would change about this project is that I would have added more details about how to find images that legal to use. This PowerPoint gave details on how to tell if you can use an image or not but people then need more resources on images they can use. They are more likely to use an image that goes against copyright because they do not know what to do or where to find legal images.
This artifact impacted faculty development and student learning because it is a way to teach others about the copyright laws. When teachers learn about the laws and rules, they are able to give that information to students. You can also show this PowerPoint directly to students so that they can learn what to do on projects. This impact can be assessed through student and teacher surveys and quizzes on copyright laws as well as using the PowerPoint scenarios to see if they understand the content. Then you can also see if students and teachers are using copyright laws in their daily online use.
