Reflection:
The Technology Workshop artifact for standard 2.6 is a plan for a technology workshop for teachers at my school. This plan was created to help teachers use the learning management system to copy content from the county page or another teachers page to their own page. The county provides a lot of great materials for teachers but most of the teachers at the school do not know how to access this content so my principal wanted me to do a workshop on this topic.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 2.6 because I was able to effectively use research based instructional design practices to create a workshop that used digital tools and resources. A lot of planning went into creating a technology workshop that teachers would actually want to use. I first learned about strategies of instructional design. One research based best practice for instructional design is the ADDIE model. The ADDIE Model is a way to go about providing the best technology enhanced learning experience. First, in this artifact I needed to analyze the audience and the need for what I was teaching. I did a survey with the teachers and the aspect of technology that they needed the most help with was the learning management system and copying content. I wanted to be able to provide the most useful professional development. Then I was able to design and develop a workshop that taught the content and was engaging. The artifact shows all of the planning for this workshop like standards, objectives, and resources to help teachers. After all of the planning I implemented the lesson for the teachers. This artifact shows the step by step implementation plan as well as the resources used. Teachers were able to try out the tools as well as get handouts to follow along and videos to help them with the steps after the workshop. After implementing the workshop, I evaluated the training by sending out a survey that teachers could fill out to described if the training met their needs. This workshop used technology in teaching by using an online PowerPoint, videos and an online tool called Mentimeter. The teachers were also using technology to follow along and trying out the resources given to them. This shows that the artifact demonstrated my ability to model and facilitate an instructional design-based workshop for teachers.
This artifact taught me the best way to conduct a training workshop using the steps of instructional design. I learned that before coming up with a learning target you need to ensure that you pinpoint what the audience will most need. The ability to create a survey to ensure the workshop would be beneficial really helped me be successful. I also was able to embed technology throughout the lesson to engage teachers and help them not only learn how to copy content but to use technology more efficiently. One thing I would do differently would be to give teachers something to prove their learning. Teachers were asked at the end of the workshop to give this a try but most teachers just explored resources. I think the best way to ensure their understanding would have been to give them a task and then check for understanding just like I do in my classroom.
The work that went into creating the artifact impacted faculty development because teachers were now able to add content to their page from the county webpage. This gave teachers the ability to have a deeper understanding of the Learning Management System as well as digital tools as a whole. Students will benefit from the learning the teachers received because they will now have more resources to use. This impact can be assessed through the teacher survey that was conducted at the end of the workshop. This survey showed that the teachers felt positively about their learning experience and thought that the workshop went smoothly.
