The Shared Vision artifact for standard 1.1 is a description of what technology enhancements can be made at my elementary school. This vision analyzes the ideas that all stakeholders have for the future of technology at the school as well as details describing the role of the stakeholders and information to explain why each enhancement is beneficial to the school. When creating this document, I was able to learn more about the school and what is needed to accomplish the technology vision.
The Shared Vision for my school was a way to get stakeholders opinions on where technology needed to be at the school and set a goal. This started with talking with teachers, students, parents, administration, and the technology coordinator to see what they would like to get out of technology and what resources were needed to accomplish their end results. I also did research on how to get the most out of technology and how to accomplish the aspects the stakeholders mentioned. I was then able to facilitate the development of a shared vision by putting all of the research and ideas from stakeholders together to form a goal, a way to reach that goal, and the roles of the people involved. In the end I developed a detailed vision for my elementary school where the goal is that technology should be used for authentic learning, to strengthen student’s communication skills, enhance problem-based learning, and to help create a more engaging environment for students to learn. Throughout the Shared Vision paper, I was able explain how to facilitate the implementation of the shared vision. To implement the changes there needed to be more access to devices so fundraising efforts would be put in to place this included various stakeholders. Once the devices were available teachers would need professional development to add in training on technology for problem-based learning and authentic learning using technology as well as ways to practice communication. The implementation phase also included ideas to get low SES students’ access to devices and a way to get girls more involved in technology though a girls coding club and a woman in technology career day. This Shared Vision is a starting point for my school to enhance their technology usage. I was able to write up a vision that promotes excellence in technology use, a reasonable plan, and a plan that stakeholders at the school could support because they were involved in the process.
By completing the Shared Vision Artifact, I learned that there needs to be a plan for where the school needs to be in the future in terms of technology. It is best to have a vision so that you have a plan to know where to start. The main purpose of the Shared Vision is that it is SHARED. This stood out to me because it is not just administrations opinion on where the school needs to be but it is a mixture of everyone’s ideas who will be involved with implementing the vision. One thing that I would do differently next time I do a Shared Vision would be to do face to face interviews with the different sets of stakeholders. I did this with a few of the groups but it would have been nice to ask follow up questions and get more details from the sets of people instead of doing an overall survey. Overall, I feel like it was successful and I was able to meet the needs of all of the groups of people through the vision that was created.
The work that went into creating the artifact impacted student learning because if the vision that was discussed in the Shared Vision paper is implemented students will be learning using technology in their everyday classroom environment. They will be using technology to become more engaged, communicate with other students as well as have a more authentic way of learning. This will create a better learning environment where students can learn using real-life scenarios. The impact can be assessed through observations to see if teachers are using technology to teach in ways that will help students learn using the technology instead of using technology as a drill and kill tool. This vision will help students learn in a more engaging way.
