Artifact:
Reflection:
The Reflection about tools that can make a difference artifact for standard 4.3 is a reflection about 3 tools that you can use in the classroom. Each tool includes a description of the tool, an example, and ways that you can use it in the classroom. It also has a description of how you can use the tool with all types of students. For each tool I also added a picture of one example that goes with the content for extra understanding of the tool.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 4.3 Diversity, Cultural Understanding and Global Awareness because it discusses information about the tools as they relate to all of these subjects. It shows others how to use these digital tools and resources to ensure that they can engage students of all types and backgrounds. First this artifact demonstrates my ability to model and facilitate the use of digital tools and resources to support diverse student needs. For each tool I describe how it can be use to help groups of students. For example, when discussing Lino I describe that it is a very visual tool that ELL students could use to help them have visuals that go with examples in the classroom. This way as a teacher you could add pictures for extra understanding of the content you are teaching. You can also link this into an LMS so the students have easy access. It also shows how important it is to use tool to support the needs of diverse students and how you can differentiate using these tools. This artifact also demonstrates my ability to model and facilitate the use of digital tools and resources to enhance cultural understand and increase global awareness. The tools listed in this resource like Padlet and screencast-o-matic can be used to teach students about other cultures and increase their global awareness by communicating with others outside of the school. Teachers can create screencasts of content to help students research other cultures as well as complete a Padlet with students from other countries. If students added information to the Padlet they could learn more about each other without having to send emails or chat online. They could add artifacts that have to do with other cultures. The artifact gives details on how students and teachers can have a better understanding of others and use the tools for diverse learning needs. Many teachers say that they do not have time to look into technology resources let alone ensure it meets diverse learning needs and cultural and global awareness needs so this tool helps teachers choose tools that could benefit their needs in their classroom without taking too much time to look into the tools.
This artifact was one of the first of many artifacts that I wrote about diversity and cultural awareness. This taught me to look at tools past their surface and see what they are capable of doing. I was able to think through how they can be used for diverse learning needs and cultural understanding. Before completing this artifact, I did not know a lot about how to evaluate a tool but this gave me a deeper understanding and a better thought process on how to use the technology standards of diversity and cultural awareness to evaluate the tools. One thing that I would change is to add more details on how to use the tools. I added information about how the tool is used in a classroom and what it can be used for but not information on how to actually create content on the tools. This may have been too many details for a reflection but would have helped teachers have a guide to the tool and have all the information they needed in one place.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted faculty development because it shows teachers how to use the various tools listed to meet diverse learning needs and add in cultural and global lessons to help students learn. The teachers would be able to use this reflection to make decisions on what tools to use in their classroom and already have some ideas. This impact can be assessed through teacher observations and surveys on their learning after using the tools and reading the reflection.
