The Internet Lesson Plan for standard 3.1 is a Lesson plan that integrates technology into classroom standards. This plan ensures that students are using technology in their learning to communicate with others using collaborative learning strategies. Students in this project create a book review and discuss it with their classmates on an online discussion. They then create a final project where they present their book review using iMovie, video note, or PowerPoint to show other students’ what books are good books to read.
This project demonstrates mastery of the standard 3.5 on basic troubleshooting. Many times, when using technology in the classroom there can be issues with connection or basic software or hardware problems. As someone who works in instructional technology you have to be able to troubleshoot these problems so that technology use is effective. In this project I added a section to prepare for problems that could arise and to demonstrate my ability to troubleshoot. One way that is listed is to prepare students for issues using classroom management techniques and teaching them about how to use technology. If students know what is expected with the hardware, they will be less likely to have issues. Another thing that happens is to be prepared for students to be locked out of their account. Sometimes students forget their password or type it in wrong. One way to help is to be prepared with their passwords handy. If this does not work make sure to have access to reset passwords. Also, many times at the school the iPads have trouble connecting to the internet so to troubleshoot I needed to ensure I knew how to get back onto the internet or have an alternate assignment for students who had trouble connecting- other devices, collaborating with another student to share a device or using pen and paper until the internet came back on. There are also multiple forms of technology for students to use in case they need to use an alternate form. Being prepared when it comes to technology is the best way to troubleshoot problems that arise.
This project taught me the importance of being ready for anything when it comes to digital tools and students. As a teacher I need to be aware of troubleshooting techniques so that students can get the most out of using technology. If there are various issues then the students will not get as much learning as they would if the technology ran smoothly. This project was a great way to show me how to prepare for the worst and expect the best. One thing that I would change about this project and other projects is to prepare even more for troubleshooting issues. There are many issues that can arise like links not working, batteries not being charged, inappropriate content, etc. If I am prepared and know everything that I can know about the issue’s students will have a better time. For this project I wish I would have added more details and information to troubleshoot for discussion problems and video note connection problems.
This section of this project on troubleshooting impacted faculty development because I was able to use my knowledge about troubleshooting to help other teachers in technology workshops. A lot of the teachers stated in a survey that they had trouble with troubleshooting so during my workshops I was able to give them tips to troubleshoot to make their lessons go smoothly. This can be assessed through the use of a survey at the end of the professional development to see if teachers learned troubleshooting tips and if they were useful.
