Vision
My vision for instructional technology in the classroom is for technology to be used to create an authentic learning environment that will foster the student’s communication skills globally and locally.
First, technology creates a more authentic learning environment that is student-centered instead of teacher-centered. I feel that technology creates a way that teachers can stand at the front of the room for a shorter amount of time and let the students take their learning into their own hands. Teachers should be a guide to learning because students learn more when they are able to figure something out on their own. The more authentic an assignment is the better students will learn. I want students to be able to use technology to do problem-based learning that will make them think about what they are doing and come up with their own solutions. This will make them learn more by expanding their way of thinking.
I also want students to use technology to communicate globally and locally. Communication is the key to success in an everchanging world. We use communication skills every day and technology communication skills are getting more and more prominent. Students should be able to learn more about the world and their community using engaged learning projects that integrate technology. When students communicate with their classmates as well as others, they learn to understand others viewpoints and can learn more about diversity and other cultures.
To prepare students for a world full of technology we need to be using it in schools to better their education and prepare them for life outside of the classroom.
