The webquest artifact for standard 3.2 is a webquest about fossils that can be used for students do authentic learning tasks to learn more about fossils and how they are made. This webquest was created using Weebly and students get a real-life scenario and roles. They then do learning tasks as a group to learn about fossils and do experiments. At the end there is a culminating project to show what they know using a video format.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of managing digital tools and resources. This resource was made from scratch. Each learning tool was created so that students are able to use the site to guide their own learning without teacher help. Students use the digital tool and the teacher is there for troubleshooting and guidance. In this student learning experience, I was able to manage digital tools and resources because I created the whole website for students to access. This tool also includes many resources that are used for student learning. One digital resource is audio clips of the information on the pages so students who have a hard time reading can listen to the audio. The pages also guide students to do experiments that create authentic learning therefore creating a more engaging learning environment. I also managed this digital tool by creating a teacher resource page so that other teachers at my school can use this tool with no trouble as well as having the lesson plan and resources.
When creating this artifact, I learned that students need set guidelines and organization when using digital tools and resources so as a teacher when I manage digital tools I need to ensure that it is organized and easy to follow. Students need to have structure like roles to complete during the webquest or they do not work together as well. When managing this tool, I also needed to ensure that all of the resources used on the pages where working properly so students got all of the information needed. One thing I would have changed about this artifact is creating audio/read aloud on every page. Only the first two pages have audio and I feel it is helpful for students who struggle to have this form of assistive technology. I would add audio clips for all of the pages of this resource.
This webquest effected student learning because it created an engaged learning environment for students to learn about fossils. All of third grade was able to use this tool to understand fossils in a more authentic way. This impact can be assessed by comparing students pre test scores to their post test scores about fossils to see if this tool taught students about fossils and how they are made in a more flipped classroom model.
