The School Improvement Plan Analysis artifact for standard 1.2 is an analysis of the plan that discusses the goals for Taylor Elementary. The SIP is written by individuals at the school and is posted for stakeholders to read about the plan for the school year. In this analysis the objective was to read the plan that exists for the school and the county and discuss the positive aspects of the plan as well as changes or additions that could be made in terms of technology.
When starting this analysis, I first had to go through the SIP (School Improvement Plan) for Taylor Elementary as well as Gwinnett County Public Schools. This gave me many details on the vision and mission for the county and the school with not only learning goals but for technology goals. When reading through the plan and thinking about the positive aspects as well as technology pieces that were not present, I was able to facilitate the evaluation of a technology infused plan. When evaluating both the school and the counties plan, I realized that the technology aspects were very outdated and that there was really not concrete plan for the future. Through analyzing what needed to be added I was able to design and develop new ideas that could be used to integrate technology into the various plans. One aspect that I was sure to integrate was to have measurable goals that can be evaluated. When looking at the mission and vision the school’s goal was to have students reach their full potential and technology can enhance learning to ensure that students are getting everything, they need in a technology rich era. Students and teachers cannot reach their full potential without a technology goal included in the plan. I also discussed the facilitation of implementing the technology plan and how it can be added to the SIP. Implementation is described in the analysis by having a goal for the students to do more problem solving and work with their community. The implementation of this plan explains that technology should be added into learning goals in math and language arts which can help raise test scores. This SIP Analysis was also a way to analyze the facilitation of the communication of the technology rich plan. Gwinnett County as well as Taylor Elementary does not have an updated plan so this helped me see that first they needed to create a plan by having all stakeholders involved in the decisions. Without their input they will be less likely to be willing to contribute to the goal. The communication discussed is through newsletters as well as the Learning Management System called eClass. This is the best way to inform parents, teachers, and other stakeholders of the plan for technology use. This analysis gave me the ability to dig deeper into the plans and see where technology could be added.
When creating the SIP Analysis artifact, I learned that to really become a leader in technology you have to be able to understand the goals and make sure that the improvement plan meets those goals. This analysis made me think about how the learning goals and the technology goals had to match and work together to reach the common goal of helping students reach their full potential. Without goals and plans that meet the needs of all areas nothing will be accomplished. If I could do something different with this artifact, I would be able to analyze a schools SIP that actually involved a current technology plan. A lot of the analysis was more about how technology could be added instead of analyzing a current plan due to the fact that there was no formal plan for the school.
The work that went into creating the artifact impacted school improvement because I was able to give the school what I had analyzed which showed them that they did not have a concrete plan and also showed them what they could do in the future. This impact can be assessed because the school is now using this information to start the process of adding technology into their plan for next year.
