The SWOT Analysis artifact for standard 4.1 is a description of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for my elementary school in regards to technology. There are 8 essential conditions and for each essential condition there is a detailed description of the technology being used as well as details on what technology could be used.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 4.1 Digital Equity because it gives ideas on how all students and teachers can have equitable access to digital tools and resources as well as technology related best practices. This document is a review of the technology digital tools and resources that are already used at the school. Once this list was completed, I could see what the school needs in terms of technology. There were gaps where there was not digital equity. I was then able to figure out what initiatives could be added to help the school with their technology needs. One way through this document that I was able to model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools and resources was to come up with a plan to get funding to acquire devices for all teachers and students to use during the school day. Through the SWOT analysis I was able to see that there are not enough devices for all students to use. Many students do not have access to devices to bring for bring your own device so there needed to be more for the school so that there could be digital equity. Another plan to gain equity was to get females engaged in technology through female technology clubs and technology jobs career days. This SWOT analysis also gave me the opportunity to model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access to technology-based best practices for all students and teachers. One opportunity for teachers to learn those best practices was having more professional development to teach teachers about the best practices. If teachers are able to use technology best practices in their teaching students will also get the benefits of the best practices. Teachers first have to be aware of the practices through extra technology professional development. This artifact describes a way that teachers will go to technology development every few months called SOAR University. This way the teachers are always up to date on emerging technology.
This artifact taught me to think about all students and teachers to come up with the best way to serve everyone in terms of technology. Through the SWOT analysis I was able to look into all practices at the school and make decisions to better what was already there as well as add new practices that could help us reach the technology goals at the school. One change I would make to this artifact would be to add more ways for students to have access to digital tools and resources. I added ways for funding as well as ways that internet could be discounted for students but most of this is not immediate. I would have liked to look into more ways that students could have immediate access to technology.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted school improvement, faculty development and student learning. All of these people would be impacted because the SWOT analyzed all technology in the school. It created ways to improve technology that would help the school reach technology goals. It created professional development for technology based best practices to be taught and student learning because students would have more resources to learn about technology as well as have more engaged learning through the use of technology. This impact can be assessed through checking the technology goals to see if they were met through data. The impact on teachers can be assessed through surveys as well as observations and student impact can be assessed through test data and classroom observations.
